JAIME PERRY: ARTISTS STATEMENT

“There is no reality to abstraction, only the life that we bring to it”

In my work, I seek to penetrate an emotion, a feeling, a state of mind that is transported onto a photograph, a canvas, a wood panel and paper in a restless abandonment of power. It is difficult to articulate the silence of abstraction in the confines of movement. Yet, it is not my intent to shock or provoke, but to allow the viewer an access into exploration of ones thoughts or visuals of his or her own imagination.

There are places to which art calls us into being who we are. In my work I am drawn to create bright and colorful, abstract and figurative images outside of that moral boundary and social iniquities immersed in sexual fragments.

Perry’s repertoire and inspiration includes using sleek, bright portraits driven by experiences of race, mass media, sexuality, political injustice, architecture, skin tones, music, childhood and capturing among other topics, relationships and women.
